April 4, 2011, 10:32 pm For some snow play we headed up highway 44 from Redding to a little beyond the north entrance to Lassen National Park. There is a nice snow play hill that we had all to ourselves. Given the condition of the snow, it would have been nicer if the hill was a little steeper, but the kids had a good time. In addition to sliding down the hill, the kids built a snowman (a snowbaker?), and engaged in a snowball fight.

April 4, 2011, 7:24 am Sundial Bridge Today we explored the Sundial Bridge, a single-tower suspension bridge that spans 700 feet across the Sacramento River. Because of its exact north-south orientation, the 217 foot-high cantilever support tower functions as a sundial.
After playing around on and taking photos of the Sundial Bridge, we strolled through the nearby arboretum and enjoyed a few plants and flowers, but mostly the butterflys. We followed that with a delicious home-made pizza dinner.

April 3, 2011, 7:20 pm When a very good friend offered the use of their new home in Redding, we jumped at the opportunity. This was the view from the dining room on the first evening (telephoto shot).
 Mt. Shasta
We walked in the neighborhood and rode mountain bikes on some nearby trails, as well as going to Turtle Bay Park.

Consider this:“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34–35
