April 12, 2011, 5:26 pm We grabbed our bikes this morning and headed for the Monterey Bay area, but first we stopped to ride a portion of the Coyote Creek trail. We started at the trail head on Silver Creek Valley Rd and turned around at the Peet’s Coffee on Cochrane in Morgan Hill. The round-trip was almost 29 miles. It’s very green and pretty this time of year. We ignored the trail closed signs—there were two or three shallow water crossings on the trail. Judging by the high water marks, the trail really was impassable during the last storm.
We had planned to stay in Marina where it’s easy to jump on the Montery Bay Bike Trail, but the one remaining room was outrageously priced. We found a comfortable little motel in Carmel with reasonable rates.

April 10, 2011, 11:15 am I’ve been playing around with my photo processing software (Aperture) and having fun with some special effects. Chase keeps asking, with a plea in his voice, if my dusty old motorcycle in the garage runs, because he clearly wants a ride on it.

April 5, 2011, 9:34 pm Brandy Creek Falls We wanted to find an easy hike that was interesting to the kids (and us). Mark searched for trails to waterfalls, and found several in the area of Whiskeytown. I’m glad we chose Brandy Creek Falls because it had bridges at the water crossings (some of the other hikes we looked at didn’t). There was a lot of water, and we couldn’t have crossed without bridges.
The waterfall is not very high, but all the snowmelt made it impressive.
