Southern California Desert, day 8

Before leaving the San Diego area we went out to Point Loma and hiked to the old lighthouse. It’s a beautiful area. We also searched for a couple of caches along the road next to the impressive Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.

Southern California Desert, day 7

This was our southernmost traverse of the width of California, about half on I8 and half on backroads like 94. It was pretty barren country, although as we detoured north toward the Salton Sea we did find some weird stuff.

Southern California Desert, day 6

We drove east on I10 to Blythe and then south on 78 to I8 and then east to Yuma. We drove by Imperial Date Farms so we stopped to get a date shake. It wasn’t anything special. I wonder if the date shakes at China Ranch are better.
