Playing around with a new camera

Some of the first photos I shot with my new Canon camera and lens were of Carolyn and Elizabeth in available light. ISO settings on these photos were 2000 and 3200. Noise is noticeable, but not objectionable to me. The biggest challenge is the shallow depth of field at f/2.8.

Oh, and the cute models are almost two years old.

Mission accomplished—new bike acquired

Happiness is a new birthday bike

We had good intentions yesterday, but the store didn’t have this size frame unboxed. We went back today to let her test ride it, and when her smile kept getting bigger and bigger as she was riding, it was clear it was going to work for her. Happy birthday!

Kids grow so quickly

Biking

It seems like it wasn’t very long ago that we gave our granddaughter this bike for a birthday present. She had outgrown her little bike with training wheels, and with just a couple of training sessions with her daddy she was two-wheeling it. A few days ago I raised the seat for her and noticed the bike really is too small for her.

Since it’s her birthday (in a week) we surprised her by taking her to REI to check out a small frame mountain bike. As we started looking over the various bikes, I think she wanted one in her favorite color, but bikes aren’t like cars, and only come in a single color scheme for a particular model. We tried an extra-small unisex model that was fine as far as the stand-over height was concerned, but the top tube was too long. Then we tried a small women’s frame, but it was more or less the same as the XS unisex frame. She needs an extra-small women’s frame, which they had in stock but not built.

Hopefully, this one will fit

So, we’ll go back when they have it built and try it out. Hopefully, it will be a good fit. Even though it’s not her favorite color, she thinks it looks nice.
