Breaking the sound barrier

Breaking the sound barrier

Is this a disguised alien spacecraft caught in the instant of exiting a wormhole? Our presuppositions tell us not so—it’s just a jet flying faster than the speed of sound. While I’ve never observed such phenomena, it does remind me of a couple of times I’ve seen the Blue Angels perform.

The Blue Angels normally perform their manuevers a bit away from the watching crowd. However, on two occasions I’ve watched from “non-standard” locations which just happened to be right under some of the high-g, low altitude turns. This same kind of mist forms at the top of the wing surfaces, and the thunderous roar from the jet engines at full power shakes your insides and sets off car-alarms. It’s pretty impressive.

Speaking of high-g, there’s some very interesting video around showing the effects on “VIPs” of these high-g (up to 7 gs) turns. I thought this one was particularly interesting. I’m quite certain it’s a ride of a lifetime, and one I don’t want to take.
