Fremont and Alviso

This afternoon Dan, Janet, and I made a run down to the Fremont, Milpitas, Alviso area. Had a lot of fun.

We started with Fremont Falls which is surprisingly close to 680 and Washington Blvd. We knew from the logs the coords were a bit off, and we found it right away at 1:19 PM. On the same trail was Buckeye Walkup. Unfortunately, we walked right into the middle of an airsoft game and one team was camped right on top of the cache. We talked for a bit and then they left. We grabbed the cache at 1:34 PM.

We drove a bit farther into Fremont, off of Auto Mall Parkway for A Pacific Island – In Fremont? which took us a while to locate. Dan found it at 2:08 PM. Next was Scooct, an anagram for Costco. What a zoo. Grid lock in the parking lot. We couldn’t find an empty spot and finally parked across the street in another business lot. The cache was an obvious, quick find, but very, very public. We did it anyway and logged it at 2:24 PM. A couple of blocks away, we quickly found We Bad! at 2:33 PM.

South Span and North Span were at each end of a bridge over a salt marsh. Parking was a bit of an issue–we parked in the LAM Research lot. We found them at 2:46 PM and 2:55 PM, respectively. From the same area we took a short trail out toward the bay and found is it in you? at 3:09 PM.

We decided to drive over to Alviso, but on the way stopped for LaQuinta Nano Cache 5, which Dan found at 3:20 PM.

On the way into Alviso, we stopped for High Voltage, so named because of the interesting high voltage tower that transitions from overhead lines to underground. I found it pretty quickly at 3:37 PM.

The first cache we looked for in Alviso was the Two Wades. There was a ground level historical marker in front of a couple of dilapidated buildings. Dan found it at 3:45 PM. Then we walked over to a bridge and found Fork in the River at 3:53 PM.

Outdoor Warning was hard for us to find–had extremely good camo. We kept looking right at it and ignoring it. Janet finally got it at 4:10 PM.

We easily found Guadalupe River: Port of Alviso at 4:20 PM. Then found the first stage of Operation Futari (a lot more to do there), and then got Wind in the Cattails after a little bit of searching (4:36 PM).

We wound up the day in Alviso by completing all the stages of Alviso Marina Nature and History Walk, completing it at 5:15 PM.

On the drive home, we stopped and found Take a Brake on the Sunol Grade at 5:52 PM.

On the way to Amador City

Bryan Hammond kicked off a show of his paintings with an open house this evening at the Howard Rees Gallery in Amador City. We decided to go and make a day of it after Karen’s radiation treatment.

While Karen was getting her treatment I drove over to the Concord BART station and hunted for Bart: Concord Station. This one fooled me for a while, but I finally got it at 10:15 AM.

Before we ate lunch at the Korean barbecue place in Concord we like, we had a little time to kill, so we drove east toward Clayton until we passed a cache. That was Concord Big Tree (used to be trees). I didn’t look long before using the hint, and then quickly found it 10:37 AM.

From there we drove over to The Other End! This was a simple film cannister micro that I found at 10:53 AM.

After this, we headed east on Highway 4 toward Jackson, with a little detour to Ione. There I got a virtual, San Simeon? at 2:13 PM as well as Pioneer Cemetery Series #8 at 2:37 PM. We could have gone across the street for another cemetery cache, but we were running short on time.

Lone Pine in Livermore

Dan called me for info when he was making the FTF on this cache (Lone Pine) right after it was published. I checked it out on Google maps and it was a familiar area. Today I was driving by without my GPSr and decided to give it a shot. It didn’t take long.
