I picked up 5 caches in 6 miles in Morgan Territory today. Even after the little rain we had it wasn’t too muddy and I managed the descent down the Coyote Trail just fine. This afternoon I met up with Worker of Wood, MotorBug, and Shadow101 to look for some caches in the Castro Valley/Hayward area. It was an interesting time getting to know these guys. This was definitely urban caching, with many of them in very public places. I’m sure I would not have done some of them had I been alone. Of particular note, we knocked off Portuguese Time Capsule. Very hard. I’m sure glad I had help. Like a time capsule, this little nano is in the side of one of the mosaic rocks that is loose up next to the bench. Karen and I did a loop hike of about 7 miles starting at the McAbee trailhead. We found this a very enjoyable hike. When we arrived it seemed pretty busy–lots of cars, but it seemed most folks were finishing their morning runs or walks. After we got on the trail, especially at the far end of the loop, we didn’t run into many people. We found 14 caches, most of them quite straightforward although some had significant bushwhacking involved with some steep climbing. Karen did well. Part of the trail was along a shaded trail next to a running stream, and part of the trail was on a ridgeline with good views of San Jose. A Highly Repulsive cache was a twisted high point–enjoyed it. My first thought was that the word repulsive indicated magnetic, but then everything else in the description and first stage pointed at something gross. I got sucked into poking around in a hole for a couple of minutes until I glanced up and saw the cache in plain site. Indeed, it was a magnetic repulsive micro cache. |
