On the drive home, we took the old Donner Pass Road and found four caches before getting back on the freeway. One of them was on the old railroad bed (tracks are gone). I think its worth returning and exploring some of the tunnels and snow sheds in the area. Great views too. We hiked with Mark and the girls today starting from the Alpine Springs trailhead just above Fallen Leaf Lake and heading toward Grass Lake. We didn’t make it all the way to the lake, but we did get in about 4 miles. On the way out we stopped at Lilly Lake for a cache. Karen and I did some hiking and cache hunting this morning in the Emerald Bay area. I completed the multi-caches that I started yesterday up at Velma Lakes, and we found a few more in the area, including one all the way down at Vikingsholm. |
