Sunol hike with the kids

Sunol vista, Little Yosemite

Yesterday afternoon we took a short hike with Mark, Annmarie, and the kids. We took the easy trail out to Little Yosemite in Sunol Regional Park, enjoying the sound of rushing water in the stream, the very green hills, an occasional early blooming flower, and each other’s company.

The poison oak is farther away than it looks

Along the way we had several opportunities to encounter a bush that was beginning to leaf out with shiny, reddish-green leaves and teach the kids that this is what poison oak looks like in the spring. We hiked back on the single track Canyon View trail, with its wonderful vistas, and the kids got to practice hiking skills on narrow trails. Both girls did very well on the 3 mile hike, even though one of them was feeling poor and was sick last night.

Chase

Chase was a happy hiker in his backpack. When we got him out of the backpack he wanted to climb the wooden steps, or watch the ants (well, actually he wanted to pick them up).
