Southern California Desert, day 4

First thing, we went back to the Mojave Preserve to the Hole in the Wall area where there are highly eroded cliffs of volcanic tuff. There is a trail that has an interesting down-climb through some narrow slots using rings for hand and foot holds. We both made it down the first set of rings, but the second set looked more difficult, requiring more arm strength. Even though we were within a 100 feet of the cache I was hunting, we took a much longer trail around the mountain and up to the bottom of the down-climb area.

We headed north along the Colorado River on the California side to near the conjunction of California, Nevada, and Arizona for a cache.

Then we crossed over the river into Arizona and followed highway 95 back to Needles to get a couple of caches before driving south to Lake Havasu. We picked up another cache and then had an early dinner.

We drove on south to Parker with a stop at the Bill Williams River National Wildlife Refuge for a cache or two, but the hikes were going to be tougher than I had imagined by looking at Google Earth.
