Slate posted an article on “The Midlife Happiness Crisis.” A couple of economists have studied how happiness evolves as people age. Interestingly, happiness is U-shaped over a person’s lifetime, while income and wealth tend to increase over a lifetime. The low point in happiness tends to occur at age 45. The economists speculate that people are dealing with their strengths and weaknesses and dreams, and only after mid-life start to become comfortable with who they are and where they are going.
That may be, but I think the bottom of the U, the unhappiest stage, can be moderated by practicing this Biblical command:
Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the LORD is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other. Keep his decrees and commands, which I am giving you today, so that it may go well with you and your children after you… Deuteronomy 4:39-40
