Learning to bake a pie

Learning the joy of baking is a natural when you have a patient Nana to guide you. You can believe that the enjoyment of this cherry pie was even sweeter because of the participation in making it.

I think there is a lesson here for the church. Leaders want everyone in the church to participate in volunteering at some task. But is there an opportunity to learn how to serve in a particular area under the practical guidance of an experienced volunteer? Book learning (Bible knowledge) is not sufficient. Jesus taught his disciples how to serve by instruction, demonstration, and then guided assignments. History indicates it was incredibly effective.
