Faith: empty or real?

Michael Vick has plead guilty to being involved in an illegal dogfighting operation. A talented and exciting quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, Vick’s poor choices may mean he will never play pro football again.

In a public statement, Vick took full responsibility for his actions and added, “I’m upset with myself and, you know, through this situation I found Jesus and asked him for forgiveness and turned my life over to God.” Reportedly, a number of Christians are quite skeptical.

Frankly, it’s too soon to know whether he’s being truthful, or just saying things for PR value. In the Bible, the book of James lays it out clearly (chapter 2 verses 17 and 18).

So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.

Now someone may argue, “Some people have faith; others have good deeds.” But I say, “How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.”

See, the deal is, if you are going to proclaim faith in Christ, is there enough evidence to convict you?
